Abstract
Automotive industries are always concerned to offer more comfort to drivers. In particular, the judder must be avoided as much as possible. Although judder is a very complex phenomenon caused by several factors, this work has focused only on the clutch facing. Based on multivariate statistical analysis and on the torque signal from a real bench test, it has been possible to separate the facings according to their judder performance and manufacturing characteristics. Most importantly, such analysis has been able to establish a gold standard behavior for torque that might be extremely helpful for friction material development, allowing a more consistent understanding of the judder behavior.
