Abstract
Theil index has been widely used in inequality measure for its systematic and homogeneous. This paper establishes the knowledge stock index system to calculate the knowledge stock, considering the specific economic background with fewer indexes reflecting the stock accurately and scientifically, then evaluates the knowledge stock gap based on the Theil index. The empirical analysis of 31 Chinese provinces in 2011 shows that there are differences among different regions, the evaluation of knowledge stock gap of Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong are significantly higher than the whole country´s average level. Besides, the reasons are analyzed in detail.
