Abstract :
We present a pretouch sensing systems for ferromagnetic materials. We use several electromagnets with a low excitation frequency such that objects made of conductive material do not affect the measurement. Results are compared with a previous design based on permanent magnets and it is shown that a significant improvement of the accuracy of the position estimation for a ferromagnetic object in the grasping area can be obtained.
