The performance of the Daubechies mother wavelets on ECG compression

Electrocardiograms (ECG) display important information about the cardiac activity of the human heart. An early diagnosis can be significantly improved through long-term remote monitoring of the patient. This involves large quantities of data to be transmitted to a physician for interpretation. Therefore, reliable compression algorithms have to be developed. The performance of a compression method based on the Discrete Wavelet Transform has been tested using the Daubechies family of mother wavelets as a main parameter. Simulations have been performed on a significant number of ECG signals, the results being displayed for performance evaluation.
