Abstract
Energy Management is an increasingly important issue for all tertiary institutions in South Africa because of budget cuts and increased financial restrictions. This article focuses on the need for a detailed site audit of all the electrical loads at a tertiary institution. The recommendations indicate the potential to reduce the campus demand profile through intelligent energy management of the campus buildings. Proposals are made on various techniques that can be used to reduce, even further, the cost of electrical energy on campus.
