Abstract
Several technologies that support meetings use application software that is tailored to particular meeting purposes and is less suitable for others. The author surveys `use of time´ research to identify common meeting purposes that need to be supported and, to the extent possible, to quantify their relative frequencies and explain why the most common meeting purposes are so prevalent
