Abstract
In terms of improving a system for particle image velocimetry (PIV) in which the illumination system is produced by flash lamps instead of lasers, two major problems are discussed, in order to extend its capability for medium-size low-speed wind tunnels. The first is progress in developing a system, obtained by a proper electronic device, for reducing the flash time by one or two orders of magnitude, to have a sharp image of a particle moving at speeds of the order ten to fifty meters per second. The second is the development of a seeding system by a set of small air bubbles generators. Both improvements are critically described in the paper.
