Abstract :
Key issues related to managing local area networks and controlling their effectiveness are addressed. A LAN management model was developed based on preliminary interviews with network managers and administrators as well as current literature. The model, which recommends team support from the planning stage through the expansion stage, may serve as the basis for future research. The ultimate goal of such research would be to provide organizations with a tool to facilitate not only successful implementation and maintenance of LANs but also strategies necessary to measure the effectiveness of LAN installations. Measuring effectiveness may also contribute to decisions about modification or expansion of existing LANs
