Abstract
This paper presents vehicle alternator/generator trends toward the next millennium. A brief alternator/generator background is first presented and then four alternative alternator technologies are discussed. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new integrated starter/alternator/dampers system and to present study results of a comparison between typical stator core lamination material and powder magnetic material. Extensive laboratory testing has been conducted for different frequencies and applied field current levels. The induced flux density and field strength characteristics of the two magnetic materials are then compared at various field currents and rotor speeds
