Abstract
Control abstractions represent knowledge about the use and control of the domain knowledge in the problem space when unusual or special situations occur. In order to address these control issues in a problem domain, a software model called the smart object model (SOM) is described. In this model, a system is developed as a set of smart objects that pass data and control information among each other. The model is described and its capabilities are demonstrated through the representation of control situations in a support system for nuclear power plant operations
