Abstract :
Entrepreneurship encompasses the theory and practice that enables individuals and teams to transform ideas into products and services that benefit society. This is of special relevance to educators interested in teaching students not only technological competencies, but also the capacity to transform ideas into viable products and services. While most of our students will not become operating entrepreneurs who start their own businesses, they may nevertheless benefit from knowledge of specific entrepreneurial competencies. Three competencies that are most valuable for students are: 1) strategic thinking, 2) resourcefulness, and 3) effective communication. Each of these competencies involves specific behaviors that can be isolated, practiced and learned - either in the context of a dedicated course, or integrated with other curricula. In this workshop, you will be introduced to each of the three entrepreneurial competencies and provided with an opportunity to 1) experience them first-hand, and 2) learn how to teach them as stand-alone concepts or as part of an existing (non-business) course. The goal of the workshop is to provide you with practical tools that will allow you to understand and integrate entrepreneurial concepts into courses for the benefit of your students.
