Abstract :
Efficient IIR filter structures based on allpass subfilters have been presented earlier for Nyquist pulse shaping applications. We examine the properties of these filters and discuss how the special properties of this filter class can be utilized more generally in the front-end processing of digital receivers. We present an efficient receiver front-end architecture which combines with the receiver half-Nyquist filtering the special prefiltering required to achieve jitter-free performance in certain frequency-error detection and timing recovery schemes. It is shown that this filter class gives at least as good performance as standard raised-cosine filtering
