Abstract
Discusses the state of IS literature at the close of the 1980s. The authors conclude that IS researchers are making more references to their own work, but what IS research is not being cited any more often in the reference discipline of organization science. The authors believe that this pattern will change in this decade, and that IS will continue to emerge as a viable, self-sustaining discipline
