Abstract
This paper presents an hierarchical approach to the modelling and simulation of power electronic and motion control systems. Several ways to simplify the models and to speed-up simulation are proposed. A new method of creating simple, reliable and fast models of power electronic switches is presented. A concept of the ideal modulated transformer and gyrator as the fundamental elements of the power converter model is discussed. Several models of voltage source inverters are compared. A modular approach to the modelling of electrical machines and three-phase transformers is presented. Some examples of numerous models created by the author are shown. All examples have been prepared using PSpice A/D and Schematics, version 6.3, but the general methods and hints can also be helpful for users of other circuit-oriented simulation packages
