Abstract
In this paper, we consider the problem of target tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in the presence of malicious sensors. These malicious sensors, called Byzantines, send falsified information to the fusion center. We analyze the effect of false information from the Byzantines on target state estimation. We analytically obtain the minimum fraction of Byzantines that `blinds´ the fusion center, i.e., that makes the local sensor data useless to the fusion center. We also propose a dynamic non-identical quantizer design to reduce the effect of Byzantines on tracking performance. We show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme with simulation results.
