  • Abstract
There is often a requirement to display a mosaic of images, which may typically be image slices of a 3D data set, or frames of an image sequence. Often, this mosaic of images need not consist of particularly high resolution images, but are closer to "thumbnail" images in concept. In a typical application environment, a user would select the images of interest in the sequence, and have those displayed at higher pixel resolution. The authors show that the wavelet transform is a natural tool for progressive transmission of images, to encompass both the display of initial and interpolated images, and the display of high resolution images through transmission of successive image detail.<>
