Abstract :
Although the TMN standard enables system providers to build up operations systems being able to manage-based on structured information-even complex networks, one remaining problem is still not solved satisfactory: The adequate and efficient transfer of information to the user, i.e. the network operating personnel. This paper presents an integrating structuring approach to bridge the gap between the network management system and the corresponding user interface system responsible for graphical representations of the managed network. The approach proposes a clear separation of management system and user interface from the implementation view point, and a full integration on the information model level. The basic network information as states and topology should be represented by a generic user interface, that is seen from the management system as a basic management application, and from the user as a navigation environment that presents the basic information and is framework for advanced management applications at the same time
