Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of determining direction measurement of discrete/burst sound events occurring randomly far away from the system. The direction measurement algorithm basically deals with the finding of the direction of sound using the path difference phenomenon. This principle is used to measure the direction and distance of the sound source. In this project, we have developed a dedicated system using DSP processor and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA). Our system can measure the sound sources at a distance of 10 km to 20 km with an accuracy of 0.5%.
