Abstract :
In the last few years, massive use of the nonlinear and time varying devices has led to distortion of voltage and current waveforms. Increased power quality disturbances and implementation of various standards and guidelines such as IEEE-519 have encouraged both utility and customers to share their responsibilities, to maintain power quality disturbances within the acceptable limits. Harmonic distortions are considered one of the most significant reasons for power quality problems. An attempt is being made here to know the existing level of harmonic pollution present in the Indian power system. Harmonic content of some of the very commonly used loads and residential areas is studied. A survey is also presented to know the harmonic level present at the distribution system.
