PDC (Programme Delivery Control)

The automatic control system of the future provides correct recording on home video recorders (VCRs) of transmitted television programmes. PDC consists of two main elements, a preselection function and a recording control function. The programming of the videorecorder uses the transmitted programme listing pages on teletext. The programme that the user wants to tape can be selected with the help of a cursor and read into the VCR with a command on the remote control. The recording of the preselected programme starts automatically, controlled by a unique Programme Identification Label transmitted by teletext together with the television programme when the programme starts.
