Abstract :
Mutual coupling between a pair of identical array elements is calculated from the radiated far fields (Richmond, 1961) using the reaction theorem applied to a single element. Results for the far field reaction technique have been obtained for a Hertzian dipole and waveguide aperture model, tested on different reaction surfaces. Comparisons with more conventional calculations applicable to the chosen element clearly indicate increased accuracy. The method is hoped to provide a quick and easy estimation of the mutual coupling using the measured far field data of a single array element. This technique is intended to be used as a development tool for the design of phased array elements with low mutual coupling
