Abstract :
Integrated modular avionics (IMA) systems are being installed on a number of new and modified aircraft. This paper provides a definition of IMA, an overview of the existing IMA certification guidance, and seven keys for successful implementation and certification of IMA systems. Additionally, this paper addresses some of the major certification concerns that should be considered by IMA manufacturers, aircraft applicants, and certification authorities when developing, selecting, or approving IMA technology.
