Abstract :
This lecture discusses the technical problems confronting the civil aerospace community following the new EMC requirements to prove that aircraft could safely operate in the presence of High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF). With size varying from a small single person pleasure aircraft to a Boeing 747-400, severe technical challenges have faced the technical committees tasked with developing the approved procedures from military aircraft test techniques with modifications to cater for the `jumbo´ jets and cost considerations. Military procedures have proved to be too expensive and impractical for full incorporation into commercial aerospace
