Abstract :
The EMC Directive 89/336 EEC covers all things electrical except transmitters, amateur radio equipment and apparatus covered by other directives. The UK Statutory Instrument SI 1992:2372 recognised that many systems, apparatus etc. are either too large or too powerful to be tested by conventional EMC methods, and also referred to excluded installations. Despite the exclusion clause in the UK regulations, installations will be expected to comply with the essential protection requirements, that is, not to cause interference to radio, telecommunications etc. There is therefore a requirement for tests to be performed in situ and hence for some agreement on appropriate test methods and limits of emissions. The work of CENELEC and the contents of CISPR Publications are reviewed
