Abstract :
In a PCS context, traditional metrics of assessing switch capacity such as BHCA (busy hour call attempts) do not convey the complete information about the switch capacity. This is because of events such as handovers and registrations, and short messages. This paper presents an attempt to provide a capacity benchmark, BHME (for busy hour mobility events), that will create a meaningful and seamless wireless/PCS switch capacity concept. This benchmark is a measure of the projected capacity of the switch given the benchmark´s criteria regarding number of subscribers, voice call rate, supplementary services usage, handover rate, and registration rate
