Abstract :
Mercury was granted a licence in 1982 to act as a telecommunications network operator in the United Kingdom. The licence included the provision of local, trunk and international services. This paper traces the development of international services from their beginning, and looks forward to continuing growth in capacity and performance, with significant changes in a climate of increasing liberalisation
