Abstract
B-AMC is a proposal for a future aeronautical communication system in the L-band. It was identified as one possible L-DACS 1 candidate. The original specification of the B-AMC air-ground protocol proposed the introduction of link-layer quality of service mechanisms. However, it did neither contain concrete algorithms, nor any guidelines for their implementation. This paper provides the specification and performance evaluation for an enhanced, quality of service aware, medium access and logical link control layer. The presented protocol improvements were guided by extensive simulation work and theoretical analysis. Selected results of this analysis and performance evaluation are presented in this paper.
