Abstract :
Static UPS are available from a hundred or so VA, up to 1 MVA, and larger, if multi-module systems are included. Over such a wide power and application range, no single technology is totally appropriate. Some of the various technologies, and design and marketing considerations are discussed. Throughout these discussions, the power ratings noted must be regarded as approximate. UPS design is undergoing continuous, rapid change, and the various techniques are being applied over wider and wider power ranges. The paper focuses on the power circuits, and does not digress onto the subjects of microprocessors, controls, displays, and communications, all of which are developing at an equally rapid pace
