Abstract
The antennas required for mobile communication should be small so that they can be easily flush mounted on to the surface of the vehicles (e.g., a locomotive). The paper is aiming the design and construction of a low profile antenna with frequency of operation at 160 MHz, bandwidth efficiency of 10 MHz and omni directional radiation pattern. The design and fabrication of the antenna was carried out by modifying the typical shunt-fed bent monopole type antenna and considering it as a Tee-match monopole antenna. Various antenna parameters were tested, and results were matched with the required specifications of the antenna and were found operational with the VSWR of 1.028:1 maximum over 7 MHz bandwidth.
