Abstract :
A systematic modelling methodology coined the `interactive distributed magnetic and linked electric equivalent circuit´ (IDMLEEC) approach to modelling electromagnetic behaviour in interlinked electric and magnetic circuits in devices and electrical machines is described briefly. Advantages of the method include the direct correspondence with and traceability of the origins of all the components in the models to the machine structure and materials, the representation to the level of detail required of the magnetic and electric field and the interactions with linked circuits. The theory unifies the electric and magnetic field theories and circuit theory and new concepts such as self and mutual `dampance´ and `linkance´ and `translinkance´ are defined. Examples are given of the modelling of a wide range of machine and device types, sizes and operating conditions, including transient and dynamic studies. `Whole system´ or holistic models containing machines, power electronic controllers and power systems are possible. Easy repeated simulations are possible, avoiding the expense of physical prototypes and faults. This is a power aid to design. Related research had led to new drive concepts and designs
