Abstract :
The allocation of bandwidth to nodes in an arbitrary ratio using the IEEE 802.6 bandwidth balancing (MAN standard) mechanism is examined, and the applications of this are demonstrated. A mathematical proof of the bandwidth allocation formula is given. Simulations are given demonstrating the possibility of running delay sensitive services such as voice and video by using this protocol. Finally, some results are presented to give the user an intuitive feel for the performance of IEEE 802.6 distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) with bandwidth balancing and to allow a comparison with other important protocols
