An Automatic Procedure for Neighbor Cell List Definition in Cellular Networks

This paper examines the problems due to the deployment of a new base station in a cellular network. In particular, an algorithm for the automatic discovery ofthe neighboring cells is presented. The proposed procedure allows the new node to configure its intra-radio access technology neighbor cell lists, without need for human intervention. Moreover, the paper outlines a procedure for updating the neighbor cell list of each neighbor; once the new node has joined the network. These algorithms enable a dynamic adaptation in presence of new elements, representing a first step towards the concept of a self-configuring network.
