Abstract :
This paper presents a novel common-gate LNA for 3-5 GHz UWB receivers, which employs a common-source amplifier as a gm-boosting auxiliary circuit, and hence decreases noise figure (NF). The LNA is able to realize the flat gain and broadband input matching over the desired 3-5 GHz frequency range, and reduces power consumption. The proposed LNA has been designed in 0.18 mum CMOS technology. The simulation results show that NF is smaller (3.8-3.9 dB) and the variation of power gain is much smaller (0.2 dB ripple) than some recently reported LNAs, both the input and output reflection coefficients are below -10 dB, and the IIP3 is -10 dBm at 3.8 GHz. It consumes 5.6 mW from a 1.8 V supply voltage.
