Abstract :
The transmitter phase noise has important effects on the performance of millimeter wave LFMCW radar. A beat signal spectrum is analyzed with consideration of transmitter phase noise after in the paper. Returns of a large RCS target will leak into the adjacent range bins and can even swamp smaller targets around the large RCS target. It is shown that a millimeter wave LMCW radar has a stronger ability to detect moving-target signals superimposed on clutter signals if its transmitter phase noise level is lower.
