Abstract
Irradiation of an atherosclerotic plaque with different laser beams was investigated to obtain necessary parameters for the photodissociative effect. It was found that the wavelength must be short enough to generate energetical enough photons, and the peak power density must take into account the energy and temporal width of the laser pulse. It was also found that intracavity tripling of the fundamental frequency of a Nd:YAG laser provides ultraviolet irradiation with efficiency more or less comparable to that of irradiation by excimer lasers
