Abstract :
A fully integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) design for IEEE 802.11b/g(WLAN)@2.4 GHz - IEEE 802.16d(WiMAX)@3.5 GHz and IEEE 802.11a(WLAN)@5.2 GHz is presented. With capacitive coupling, current can be controlled by bias for demand respectively. It can reduce power consumption for other operation bands. With 1.2 V voltage supply, the power dissipation is only 6.52 mW for 2.4 GHz band - 4.67 mW for 3.5 GHz band - 1.79 mW for 5.2 GHz band. The phase noise at 1 MHz offset frequency from carrier are -119.2 dBc/Hz for 2.4 GHz - -119.8 dBc/Hz for 3.5 GHz and -118.1 dBc/Hz for 5.2 GHz. And chip size is only 0.49 mm2. The VCO circuit has been fabricated in TSMC 0.18 mum CMOS technology.
