    The paper discusses the recent writing on telework and how much of it emphasises the positive aspects for the home based teleworker. This approach is then compared with the human resource management model. Evidence is then presented that the reality of telework implementation is often at variance with this, and reasons for the difference between rhetoric and reality are discussed
