  • Abstract
EV sharing second car system provides convenient mobility using eco-friendly EVs for residents who have usually no access to their first car. The operations center system manages reservation of vehicle use and vehicles operation. The in-vehicle system receives user\´s information from the center system, and authenticates user\´s identity to unlock the doors of vehicle. ITS technologies make possible unmanned rental/return operation of vehicles, monitoring vehicle states from the operations center, and supporting a user during the rental. In a field trial of this system, EVs were used with short duration and short mileage on the average, so EVs can be used as "second cars" in a residential area
