Abstract :
Insulin was delivered transdernally to diabetic rats using pulsed iontophoresis. Rats were shaved with electric shears 48 hours prior to iontophoretic treatment. The first iontophoretic group (n=4) had Nair applied on the day of the experiment to remove hair stubble. The second iontophoretic group (n=4) had Nair applied 24 hours before the study. The third iontophoretic group (n=4) did not have Nair applied. Our results indicate that blood glucose levels (BGL) fell on average by 68% affer 1 hour of iontophoresis in the group treated with Nair on the day of the study. In rats treated with Nair 24 hours prior, BGL remained near initial values. Animals not treated with Nair had BGL which fell only slightly within one hour of the start of iontophoresis
