Abstract
This paper presents a study of the performance of an AC-AC flyback converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) under three kinds of loads: linear resistive, linear inductive and nonlinear capacitive. Its basic operational principle and design method are explained. Simulation results of the converter with the three kinds of loads under steady state and input voltage sag conditions are presented. The converter in every case shows an output voltage THD less then 4% and an output voltage regulation in the range of -0.03% to -2.23%. Under an input voltage sag of 60% deep the converter needs about 1 ms to return to steady state condition with a very low amplitude oscillation.
