Abstract :
India has a large tribe population with a very old and huge traditional knowledge base that needs to be properly documented. This paper is a SWOT analysis of Indian Government´s initiatives to document this traditional knowledge. The analysis shows that Indian Government has taken a number of initiatives to promote research in this area but the initiatives are scattered. The efforts need to be brought under one umbrella to reap the benefits of these initiatives.
