Abstract :
Recent advances in contrast agent design and imaging techniques now make it possible to image some molecular targets at the cellular and subcellular level by MRI. In this review we highlight the use of super paramagnetic iron-oxide nanoparticles for molecular imaging applications in the cardiovascular system. The potential roles of these nanoparticles in cell labeling, targeted imaging and as activatable contrast agents are discussed
