Abstract :
An effective method for reducing the size of the broadband patch antenna with thick substrate is proposed. By using a U-shaped ground plane with three parallel slots embedded in it in place of the conventional planar ground, the half E-shaped patch antenna´s resonant frequency can be greatly lowered Although the size of the antenna (especially the thickness of the air substrate) is significantly reduced, wider bandwidth (41.3%), smaller cross-polarization radiation, good broadside radiation characteristics can be obtained.
