Abstract :
Linear estimation techniques for source localization in magnetoencephalography (MEG) that apply to distributed source activity are studied. Preliminary results with phantom and human measurements provide evidence for the feasibility of the approach and also indicate some limitations. For source activity that is superficial and in close proximity to the detectors, the proposed linear estimator provides a reasonable representation of the primary current distribution. For deeper sources and for other activity that is not in close proximity to the detectors, the linear estimator has smeared out the activity and made it more superficial
