Abstract :
The mutual coupling reduction between two microstrip arrays may be realised by changing the parameters of the arrays. In this paper, the spacing between the centers of two arrays and that between two elements are chosen as the parameters. Based on the parameter study, for given mutual coupling level, the available frequency bandwidth could be obtained. Alternatively, when the requirement of the frequency bandwidth is given, the achievable reduction of the mutual! coupling could be determined. The results of the mutual coupling reduction and the corresponding frequency bandwidth are presented for two 8X8 arrays. One prototype of the arrays was designed and manufactured. In this example. Compared with the conventional design without considering the mutual coupling reduction, the - 10dB mutual coupling reduction is achieved within 8% frequency bandwidth. The agreement between the simulated result and the experimental one S satisfactory.
