Enhanced PCS: An end user perspective

Personal Communications Services (PCS) promise voice communication with both location and terminal independence. However, people today communicate using a variety of new means of information representation. Media other than voice, such as fax, e-mail, paging, video and multimedia have generally been classified as "advanced" or "enhanced" services. However, these technologies have matured sufficiently that many of them are in everyday use. This paper analyzes the types of interactions between an end-user and the network of the future. It presents a model of the type of functionality expected of a network to provide not only the location and terminal independence that PCS promises, but also a degree of information medium independence that the end-user of today requires
