Abstract :
In an industrial or research facility, many electronic circuits have been used to control and monitor the performance of the equipment. The switching of the high current and high voltage components result in severe noise on the precision electronic equipment. This paper addresses several methods for detection and measurement of such noise and harmonics. Remedies will be given to overcome the noise problem. The effect of line harmonics on the circuit performance also will be studied. Circuit design criteria will be given to minimize the effect of the noise on the system performance. Cabling, signal transportation, networking and remote monitoring of equipment can enhance the presence of noise and subsequently jeopardize the system performance. Cabling and networking concerns will be studied and guidelines for design and installation of new equipment will be given. A case study will be shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the above techniques.
