  • Abstract
The optimisation of embedded software for developers of Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) systems is a key issue to meet real time performance constraints. This paper presents the optimisation of complex image registration algorithms which operate within a genetic algorithm framework. The algorithms have been ported from a Sun host environment to the ARM development system to run on an ARM7 target. The paper describes the diagnostic application for detecting rotation and displacement of integrated circuits and gives results from the implementation. The ARM7 system-on-chip target platform is detailed along with optimisations for the code. Conclusions state that further optimisations will be required for the target implementation
