Abstract
For studying the damping effect of power system controllers, such as PSS and FACTS stabilizers, Phillips-Heffron model has been used extensively and many analytical conclusions and design methods have been developed on the basis of Phillips-Heffron model. Hence, in order to carry out systematical investigation on the damping effect of ESS controllers on power system oscillations, this paper established the general Phillips-Heffron model of a power system with ESS installed. Based on the model, it is demonstrated how the conventional technique of damping torque analysis can be performed to examine the impact of ESS control on power system oscillation stability..
