Abstract :
Recent performance improvements in large area silicon avalanche photodiodes are presented. These improvements can be exploited in high energy and nuclear instrumentation applications where APD performance limits the detection system sensitivity. Quantum efficiency, transient response, energy resolution, and noise data are presented along with a discussion of how these recent improvements in this technology can be exploited
